The famous Stone City is located at the north of Tashkorgan County, near the snow-capped mountain and Tashkorgan river. It was a fortress city and was a strategically important stop on the meeting point of the middle and southern routes of the ancient Silk Road. There are ruins of the ancient city, official buildings, and temples from Jin and Tang Dynasties to the late Qing Dynasty. In ancient time, it was called “Puli”, and was capital of Puli Kingdom, one of the 36kingdoms of the Western Regions.
