The Hotan prefecture located southwest of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. At the northern foot of the Karakorum Mountains, south of the Taklamakan Desert. Hotan borders with Tibet in the south, and shares the borders with Kashmir, which controlled respectively by Pakistan and India in the west. Hotan was a most important city on the southern route of the Ancient Silk Road. It was the place where many ancient kingdoms took place during the 36kingdoms of Western Regions. The Hotan jade is famous all over China, there was a Jade Road even before The Silk Road, the Khotan Jade has been carried to Inland China and developed the “Road of Jade”more than 2000 years ago. Khotan prefecture has a population of 2.5 million, among them more than 80percent is Uyghur people.
