Korla city is located at the northeast of Taklamakan desert, considered the second biggest city in the region after Urumqi. Korla is the capital city of Bayingulin Mongol autonomous prefecture, about 50 thousand Mongol people live in the area, most of them still at the mountain areas as nomads. Korla city expended and developed very fast in the past 3 decades because of growing industries and agriculture. the population of the city is about 600 thousand, 70 % of them are Han Chinese. The city is well planned, eco- friendly and very modern by considering many aspects. The oil and natural gas contributes a lot to the local economy and infrastructural facilities. And the agricultural products like cotton and fresh fruits are the main income source to the farmers.
