Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrive in Kashgar

Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel. Free time suggestion: Stroll Yengi Bazaar for first tastes of samsa (Uyghur lamb pies) and kawap (cumin-spiced skewers). Overnight: Kashgar

Day 2: Kashgar City Tour (all city sites within 15km)

Highlights: Livestock Market, Apak Hoja Tomb, Kashgar Old Town, Id Kah Mosque

After breakfast, visit the Sunday Livestock Market (open 10 AM–4 PM): Watch Uyghur herders trade Sheep, yaks via secret handshakes and test your bargaining skills for silver toqquz qosh necklaces. Then explore Apak Hoja Tomb: Admire 17th-century local architecture and hear legends of the “Fragrant Concubine” from Qing Dynasty lore. After lunch, get lost in Kashgar Old Town’s maze: Follow the scent of rose tea to artisan workshops crafting dutar lutes, and peek into skywell courtyards draped with grapevines. Then visit Id Kah Mosque: the largest one in China. Overnight: Kashgar

Day 3: Kashgar → Tashkorgan (300km, 6hrs via G314)

Highlights: Opal Village, Oytagh Valley, Karakul Lake, Muztagh Ata

After breakfast, drive the Karakoram Highway: Stop at Opal Village to see village bazaar, and buy some local snacks. Then traverse Oytagh Valley’s Martian-red cliffs – keep cameras ready for wild Bactrian camels. Next, pause at White Sand Lake (Baisha Hu): Walk the boardwalk through dunes that “sing” in the wind. Finally, circle Karakul Lake with Muztagh Ata (7,546m) mirrored in its waters. Stay until dusk when the “Father of Ice Mountains” glows pink. Overnight: Tashkorgan stone-and-wood guesthouse

Day 4: Tashkorgan → Kashgar (300km return, 6hrs)

Highlights: Stone City, Golden Grassland

At dawn, explore Stone City Ruins: Climb the 2,100-year-old fortress walls where Han Dynasty soldiers lit beacon fires. Then photograph Golden Grassland – a marshland turning amber in autumn, dotted with yurts selling yak milk tea. Overnight: Kashgar
