Xinjiang ethnic costumes

Xinjiang is a multi-ethnic gathering area. There are 13 ethnic groups with a long history in Xinjiang, including Han, Uygur, Mongolian, Hui, Kirgiz, Kazak, Xibo, Tajik, Uzbek, Manchu, Daur, Russian and Tatar. Other 55 ethnic groups, such as Tibetan, Yi, Buyi and Korean, have their own characteristics.

Han Costume

Han costume is the traditional clothe of Han nationality in China.It has been developed and inherited for more than 5000 years. Different from other nationalities, it embodies the cultural connotation of Han nationality’s etiquette and customs, aesthetic character, ideological philosophy, and demonstrates the spirit of Chinese identity.Although the styles of Hanfu are various ,There are three types like formal dress, regular dress and special dress, they can be divided into three types according to their overall structure. The first is the upper and lower garment system. The most typical one is the deep garment, which can be worn by both men and women. It is not only used as a dress, but also for daily wear. It is a very practical dress. The second kind is divided into upper body and lower body clothes. The top is pure in color, while the bottom is wrong in color. It is also a formal dress for the monarch’s officials to participate in ceremonial ceremonies such as sacrifice. The third is that “Ru skirt" system also belongs to upper garment and lower garment system, which is generally used for regular clothes.

Uygur Costume

There are many patterns, very beautiful and distinctive. Uyghur male: pay attention to black and white effect, which represents rough and unrestrained Uyghur women like to use contrasting colors to make red brighter and green more green Uygur is a flower loving nation. People wear embroidered hats, embroidered clothes and embroidered shoes.

Uyghur women like to wear skirts. They like to choose bright silk or wool to cut skirts. The common materials are red, big green, gold and other colors. They wear light colored skirts inside. We prefer our own unique “Adlai silk" sewing dress. Every festival  or even weekend, from the streets, villages, mountains and fields, you can see the flower skirt sewn  Adlai silk in different colors and patterns everywhere.

There are many kinds of Uygur hats and headwear. The most characteristic Uygur men and women like to wear hats in Uygur costumes, because wearing hats not only has the function of preventing cold or heatstroke, but also needs to be worn in social activities, family visits, friends visits, festivals and gatherings. There are two kinds of traditional Uygur hats: Leather Hat and flower hat.

Kazak Costume

Kazak is a nation characterized by grassland nomadic culture. Its clothing is easy to ride. Its national clothing is mostly made of sheepskin, fox skin, deer skin, wolf skin and so on, reflecting the life characteristics of mountain grassland people.

Kazakh women’s clothing is colorful. They like to make dresses from white, red, green and light blue silk, brocade and woolen fabrics. Young girls and young women usually wear embroidered sleeves and multi-layer ruffles at the bottom. In summer, wear a scarf or jacket, and in winter, a cotton jacket.

Tajik costumes

Tajik costumes refer to the costumes with distinctive national characteristics of Tajik. Tajik people mainly live in the cold climate of Pamir Plateau. Their economic life is mainly animal husbandry and agriculture, so their clothes are mostly made of fur and felt brown. After the Qing Dynasty, more and more self-woven homespun and foreign silk were used. Men and women wear dyed red, long, pointed, soft soled leather boots and felt socks, wool socks.

Hui Costume

According to different seasons, they choose different clothes. In summer, they wear single clothes. In winter, Hui people in the north often wear cotton clothes, leather clothes and leather shoes. In the northeast and northwest, Hui people also wear cotton hats, leather hats or earmuffs to prevent cold. Hui women wear headscarves and scarves to prevent sandstorms。

The Kirgiz costume

In pastoral areas, wearing “karpak" is more common. This kind of hat is often an important sign to distinguish Kirgiz from their clothes. Both men and women wear leather boots and felt boots.   In Kirgiz clothing, most women like red. They wear short clothes and dresses. Shirt wide straight collar. The sewing of cloth clothes is simple, the sewing of advanced clothes is exquisite, and silver buttons are nailed on the cuffs and lapels. The skirt is pleated with wide band and made into cylinder shape. The upper end is tied at the waist, and the lower end is covered with fur. The skirt is covered with a round golden velvet red flower hat and a headscarf.
