Bassoon, also known as cuogao lake, means "green water" in Tibetan language. It is about 18 kilometers long, covering an area of about 27 square kilometers, and the deepest point is 120 meters. The lake is 3480 meters above sea level. It is located in the high gorge deep valley on the upper reaches of Bahe River, about 36 kilometers away from Bahe Town, gongbujiangda county. Basongcuo was rated as a national scenic spot in 1994, and was listed as a world tourist attraction by the World Tourism Organization; in 2001, it was awarded the title of National Forest Park by the Ministry of forestry. In August 2017, it became the first and only national AAAAA level scenic spot of natural scenery in Tibet It integrates snow mountains, lakes, forests, waterfalls, pastures, cultural relics, historic sites and ancient temples, with different sceneries and different seasons. The collection of famous wild rare plants is actually a paradise on earth, known as "little Switzerland". Basongcuo is green. It's a light jade like green without impurities. The lake is so clear that you can see groups of fish swimming two or three meters below; the surrounding green mountains are like Dai, the top of the mountain is covered with snow and that never changes all the year round. The snow mountain beside the lake and it reflected on the lake are entwined with each other. It's very spectacular!
