It is situated in Wuerhe, about 100 kilometers north of Karamay city, in the northern edge of Junggar Basin, the Ghost Town is a spot in northern Xinjiang where wind blows almost everyday. The ghost city is northwest and east-west, with a length and width of more than 5 kilometers, a radius of about 10 square kilometers, and a ground elevation of about 350 meters. According to the investigation, about 100 million years ago in the Cretaceous, it was a huge fresh water lake, with luxuriant plants growing on the lakeshore. In the water, there lived and bred Wuerhe sword dragon, plesiosaur, dinosaurs, Junggar pterosaurs and other ancient animals. On April 13, 2018, it was shortlisted for "100 wonders in the northwest". It is one of the few typical wind erosion landforms in the world. Ghost city has become a famous tourist area with its unique landforms and howling winds. When the wind or sandstorm rises, they roar through the town like a roaring ghost, and the dust blocks the sky. The howling sound is getting closer and closer, sometimes sharp, sometimes hoarse, sometimes like the howling of wolves, which makes people creepy. The soil here varies in color from red to black, mostly yellow. Through wind and water erosion, the strata of Guicheng uplift are carved into huge mounds of various shapes, with an average height of 10 meters (33 feet). Some mounds look like castles, temples, pavilions and Lighthouses of the city walls, while others look like lions, horses, turtles and eagles.
