It is located in the middle of the narrowest valley of Jiayuguan. The walls of the two wings of Chengguan pass across the desert Gobi. It is the master of the west end of the great wall of Ming Dynasty and the first pass of Hexi since ancient times. It is the most dangerous one among the thousands of passes under the jurisdiction of nine towns along the great wall of the Ming Dynasty, which is well preserved up to now. It consists of three lines of Defense: inner city, outer city and moat, which are overlapped and guarded. It is dominated by the inner city, with a perimeter of 640 meters, an area of 25000 square meters, and a height of 10.7 meters. It is rammed with loess, and the west side is covered with brick walls, magnificent and solid. The East and West gates are surrounded by an urn, and the west gate is surrounded by a Luocheng, which is connected with the north and south walls of the outer city. There is a "Jiayuguan" gate leading to the outside of the gate, and Jiayuguan building is built on it. There are 14 archery tower, enemy tower, turret, attic and gate tower built on the inner wall of Jiayuguan. There are guerrilla general's office, Jingting and Wenchang Pavilion built in the inner wall of Jiayuguan, and relevant imperial temples, pailou and theater tower built outside the east gate. The layout of the whole building is exquisite and vigorous, echoing the "first pass in the world" Shanhaiguan, which is thousands of miles away.
