Karez well means "well hole". Karez well is a kind of very old horizontal water collecting structure for developing and utilizing groundwater, which is suitable for Piedmont and alluvial fan margin. Karez is considered one of the three major projects in China, such as the great wall and the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal. Underground irrigation system has a history of more than 2000 years, which is very suitable for dry and hot areas like Turpan. The Karez system consists of four parts: shaft, underpass, open channel and pool. The system uses the underground water source of snow melting and ice snow for irrigation. It is precisely because of this unique underground water conservancy project - Karez, which leads groundwater to the ground and irrigates hundreds of thousands of acres of good farmland in the basin, that people of all ethnic groups in Turpan have been bred and the desert has become an oasis. Only three kilometers from the center of the city, the Karez folk garden is full of water, trees and charming scenery. It integrates the Karez with a long history and the courtyard style residential hotel with national characteristics. It can not only let people visit the Karez with a history of more than 400 years and its historical development process, but also understand the Uyghur folk customs.
